"Poetry means Bharathi!" - so observed the veteran Tamil Poet Kavimani Desika Vinayakam Pillai. Bharathi was not a mere poet. He was a great patriot and a true nationalist too. Bharathiyar lived in this world for 39 years only, but yet, he had written a significant number of poems, stories, essays etc. There is no topic or issue that he had not dealt with in his poems. He wrote 'Paappaa Paattu', ‘Puthiya Aathichoodi' etc., for the sake of children. Till his entry into the field of Poetry, poems were written in a complex style, strictly following a set of poetic rules. But, Bharathi penned effective poems in simple style and enriched Tamil Language and Literature with his contributions. Our Bharathiyar is the pioneer of free-verse in Tamil.
